Thank you

Am I the only Cardinals fan that would like to send a thank you card to the Astros and Cubs? I mean have you kept up with their off season moves? Take a look at this and tell me you don’t want to run out to Hallmark and find a flowery card that says “Thanks for all your help.”

The Cubs completely cut out the heart of their lineup. Granted Sammy Sosa was on the decline but he still hit 35 home runs last season. Sosa did struggle in the average department only hitting .253 but have you taken a look at who they got to replace him? Jeremy Burnitz will never draw comparisons to Tony Gwynn. Don’t let his .283 average fool you he only hit .244 away from the friendly confines of Coors Field. My runner up to dumbest move of the off season would have to go to the Cubs for letting Moises Alou walk away. I always felt that Alou was the toughest hitter in the lineup and always came up big against the Cardinals.

My gold medal for dumbest off season move was a run away winner. The way the Astros handled the Carlos Beltran/Roger Clemens deal was a train wreck. I don’t see how they could let a franchise player in the prime of his game walk away and pay Clemens 22 million dollars for one season. By the way seems like the hometown discount goes out the window when the season doesn’t look to promising. Don’t get me wrong Clemens is a great pitcher but a pitcher can only play once every five days. Beltran would play every day and was it just me or did Beltran hit a homerun every time he came to bat in the NLCS?

Now I know the Cardinals lost some good talent but I believe they made good moves in replacing that talent. The Cubs and Astros have some gapping holes in there teams and time is running out. So I would just like to say to the Astros and Cubs, Thanks.
